In this dissertation, the global network of 18th century Freemasons will be researched and analysed not from an institutional perspective, but from the perspective of individuals. Using first-person documents, primarily letters, the movement and action spaces of the individuals and the influence of their identity as Freemasons on their everyday lives will be analysed. The aim is to work out the versatility that the global network of Freemasons offered its members on the basis of a global micro-history.
