Threaded Oceans
Threaded Oceans
Threaded Oceans is a lecture series that explores fashion and textile cultures within the interconnected maritime worlds of the Early Modern period, examining how colonialism, trade, consumption and cultural exchange shaped — and were shaped by — the people, materials and practices that moved across oceans. Bringing together international scholars from the fields of history, textile studies, material culture and museum practice, the lecture series considers how clothing and textiles can illuminate global connections while also revealing different forms of agency, adaptation and cultural exchange. Inspired by the Prize Papers, the series offers diverse perspectives on the making, wearing and meaning of textiles in a changing world.
The lecture series takes place on Fridays at 1 pm CET, starting October 16th.
